Job Summary:
This role is for an experienced and dynamic General Manager to oversee the operations of our hotel and event facilities. The General Manager is responsible for maintaining high standards of service, ensuring guest satisfaction, managing staff, and driving financial performance. This role requires a strong leader with excellent organizational and interpersonal skills, who can effectively manage multiple departments and locations while fostering a positive work environment.
Key Responsibilities
Operational Management:
- Oversee the upkeep of the hotel and its properties.
- Implement key decisions and actions to drive operational efficiency and improvement.
- Regularly meet with department heads to discuss goals, resources, and operational changes.
- Ensure all hotel staff comply with operational standards, policies, and procedures.
Guest Relations:
- Ensure guests feel comfortable and have all their needs met.
- Address and resolve guest complaints, booking issues, and billing concerns.
- Greet guests and inspect rooms to ensure cleanliness and satisfaction.
Staff Management:
- Recruit, hire, and retain hotel staff.
- Train and develop staff to achieve their career goals and enhance their performance.
- Act as the final decision-maker in hiring key staff.
- Manage and develop the Hotel Executive team to ensure career progression and development.
Financial Management:
- Oversee hotel profitability, revenue targets, and departmental budgets.
- Maximize room yield and hotel revenue through innovative sales practices and yield management programs.
- Prepare monthly financial reports for owners and stakeholders.
- Develop plans and budgets for the owners.
Marketing and Events:
- Plan and implement hotel marketing campaigns to attract new guests.
- Organize and plan all events on the hotel’s property, such as conferences, weddings, and special gatherings.
- Act as a brand ambassador, promoting the hotel to target markets.
Maintenance and Compliance:
- Maintain the hotel’s physical properties and arrange for repairs as necessary.
- Ensure the hotel meets all health, safety, and security laws and regulations.
- Respond to audits to ensure continual improvement.
- Oversee compliance with legalization, Occupational Health & Safety Act requirements, fire regulations, and other legal obligations.
Leadership and Strategic Planning:
- Provide effective leadership to hotel team members.
- Lead all aspects of business planning.
- Identify strategic goals and communicate their importance to staff.
- Ensure monthly financial outlooks for Rooms, Food & Beverage, Admin & General are on target and accurate.
Procurement and Vendor Management:
- Assist in the procurement of operating supplies and equipment.
- Contract with third-party vendors for essential equipment and services.
Client Relations:
- Handle corporate clients and participate in new client acquisition with the sales team.
- Assist in residential sales as required and develop strong sales prospects.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Hospitality Management, Business Administration, or a related field.
- Proven experience as a General Manager or in a similar executive role within the hospitality industry is essential.
- Strong understanding of hotel management best practices and relevant laws and guidelines.
- Excellent leadership, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and hotel management software.
- Strong financial acumen with experience in budgeting and financial reporting.
- Ability to manage and motivate a diverse team.
- Exceptional problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
